Dear Friends!

I don't know about you all but it is hot up in here!!! Whew. The east coast is having a serious heatwave--which also happens to be the title of the current summer anthology that my story Summer Fever is included in. (hint, hint).

Of course with this being beach and barbecue weather, its always great to be able to pull out a great read, pick up a cool drink and take an inexpensive vacation courtesy of your favorite author. My pick this month is SILVER SPARROW, by Tayari Jones.

I love the summer for several reasons: both of my daughters are born during the summer and my grandson will be 16 today!  Happy birthday Mahlik!  And I celebrate my happy, happy in August as well.

And this is my last semester in grad school!!! Woo Hoo.  Coming down the home stretch and finishing up by thesis. I was thrilled to learn that an excerpt of it is included in Hampton University's Freshman Writing Handbook!

I want to thank all of you who donated to the Leslie Esdaile Banks fund. As you know, Leslie is gravely ill battling adrenal cancer.  All of your prayers and most certainly your contributions to her astronomical medical costs are welcome.

My very talented right hand--Tina--was instrumental in revamping my Facebook Fanpage . So when you have a minute, please stop by and "LIKE" me.  Pretty please.  Plenty of fun things over there, books discussions, excerpts, and updates.

As many of you know, Harlequin is reissuing ALL of my Arabesque titles with hot new covers.  If you missed any of them the first time around, have lost your copy--or heavens forbid you LOANED it to someone and never got it back, be on the look out as they hit the shelves.

For those of you who like really hot and sexy, my collection of three erotic and wickedly dark short stories After Midnight is now available as a Kindle e-book and  soon in paperback. ($3.99) Instant download.

LegacyLegacy of Love
Sept. 2011

Zoe Beaumont comes from a family whose history  is steeped in myth and folklore. Zoe, however, only deals in reality. As curator for African American art at the legendary High Museum in Atlanta, she is focused on her career, not on the legacy that  her family predicts will come to pass on her thirtieth birthday. But she can't deny the powerful, sexy dreams that grow stronger every day; dreams of a man whose face she cannot see, but body and hands that she can feel.

Jackson Treme, left his hometown and his old life in Louisiana behind to start over in Atlanta. Only his sister knew his real reason for leaving, what drew him to Atlanta. Settling into his new job as Professor at Clarke-Atlanta, Jackson knew that it was only a matter of time before he found what he'd come to Atlanta to seek.

Their meeting was inevitable.  Their passion undeniable. But old loves, doubts, an age-old unanswered questions stand between them and forever. As Zoe's birthday draws closer she must look deep within her heart, listen to her spirit and choose legacy or love.

RECOMMENDED READ

Silver Sparrow

Tayari Jones

A coming-of-age story of sorts, Jones's melodramatic latest (after The Untelling) chronicles the not-quite-parallel lives of Dana Lynn Yarboro and Bunny Chaurisse Witherspoon in 1980s Atlanta. Both girls-born four months apart-are the daughters of James Witherspoon, a secret bigamist, but only Dana and her mother, Gwen, are aware of his double life. This, Dana surmises, confers "one peculiar advantage" to her and Gwen over James's other family, with whom he lives full time, though such knowledge is small comfort in the face of all their disadvantages. Perpetually feeling second best, 15-year-old Dana takes up with an older boy whose treatment of her only confirms her worst expectations about men. Meanwhile, Chaurisse enjoys the easy, uncomplicated comforts of family, and though James has done his utmost to ensure his daughters' paths never cross, the girls, of course, meet, and their friendship sets their worlds toward inevitable (and predictable) collision. Set on its forced trajectory, the novel piles revelation on revelation, growing increasingly histrionic and less believable. For all its concern with the mysteries of the human heart, the book has little to say about the vagaries of what motivates us to love and lie and betray. (May)
