I can’t even return
his welcome. I think Hi, handsome. I
form Hi, gorgeous. Nothing manifests.
It’s then that I realize my game is weak. I’m warm inside and still shivering
on the out. Wanting to be brave, I swing my hips, balancing atop the
candied-colored heels. Wrong move. The heel gets caught in a crack of sand and
grass. I’m propelled forward, into his waistline. Oh yeah, real smooth, Leah. He’s quick to capture me, setting my
back against the car door. I reluctantly look up.
Nate’s eyes are
glowing as much as the sunset in the distance. I have to shut mine, lowering my
head in hopes of eluding him. Perhaps it’s the sky’s fault, but puddles of
tears are forming in my eyes.
I don’t think this
move has missed him. He lifts my face and places the back of his hand under my
chin, setting a trap with his aura. I’m completely vulnerable to this
incredibly stunning man. He places his palms on the sides of my face. He’s
forcing me to look at him. Not only do I gaze into his full dark-brown eyes, I
slip beyond, into a fortress of want and need. Just then, his lips touch mine.
They tenderly caress my lip lining, even trailing nibble after nibble about my
cheeks. He serenades the tip of my nose and up to my forehead. I close my lids
as he gently plants his approval on each eye socket.
Nate finishes this
worship of sorts, then returns to the initial landing site. This time, ummmm . . . This time, I grasp for more
than just his lips, parting my mouth ever so slightly. I allow him entry into a
part of me that I rarely offer to anyone.
Janice was born in Guyana, South America and migrated to the USA in 1980. Although her citizenship certificate now reads the United States of America, she considers herself a citizen of the world. Sure she has not physically been around the world and back, but she’s traveled in her mind and dreams.
Janice
is an author. She enjoys writing about social issues and personal experiences.
Janice’s debut release was entitled Damaged
Girls. She uses the three books in that series to detail the effects of
different forms of abuse, discussing issues that are known to be taboo. Her
next release, Jumping Ship, is a
dedication to her country of birth and an introductory novella to the Island Hopping Series – due out in 2014.
It’s poised to be a colorful and emotional experience of life, love and family.
As of present, she is also a contributor to a short story collection – Just Between Us, Inspiring Stories by Women.
And lastly, Loving Nate is a novella
about the realities of losing one’s self to love.
Janice
enjoys reading. And is drawn to stories with distinct characters that she can
love or hate, characters she can form alliances with or characters that she can
swear off and despise. She is also weak for a good cultural tale, preferably in
the form of historical fiction. Janice loves to be taken off guard by clever language
and settings.
Janice
is also a devout supporter and promoter of other authors through social media.
She hosts a weekly show, Cultural
Cocktails, on the largest social radio network, Blog Talk Radio.

Feature & Follow Friday #192
It's time for Feature and Follow Friday!
I would like to thank Alison Can Read and Parajunkee.com for choosing me as a feature!! I hope I do this right because it's my first time and this feature is just the coolest thing!
Here is the week's question: Spring is in the air! Show off your favorite outdoors reading spot. If you don’t go outside...well where else do you read that isn’t inside your house? We want pics!
I'm not an outside person, because I'd become too distracted if I went outside so I choose the solace of some place quiet I feel comfortable.
Home is my comfort zone and I can take my shoes off too.
Across from my desk (where I write) in my office I have these huge pillow like couches that are firm, but comfortable. Mostly used as some place people who come in my office can sit, I love to curl up on them and just relax with my Kindle or a book.
They were donated to me and the kids didn't want them. They were awkward looking in my living, so I took them too my office. We've been in love since. Plus they're purple and that's my favorite color!!
Interview Questions:
When did you start blogging? It was 2009. I know this because that's when I released my book Mistaken Identity. I blogged the book live in two weeks. It was great!! Didn't stop blogging and then I started featuring books and authors on my site! Loved the feedback! Really love the traffic and I just love to blog!
What is your favorite part of book blogging? Pushing publish on a blog post that features a book. It's like I'm introducing the world to what's new, what's hot, what's great. I just love books and showing them off.
What type of books do you mainly blog about? Romance and suspense. I love showcasing love and the thrill of life and those unpredicatable "what if" situations.
What is your favorite book(s)? When the character has more than just the romance happening to them. When there is not only love on the line, but her life or family or even worse. I feel connected to the character then because it feels a like like my life (except my life is never is jeopardy... although I do live in Detroit. LOL)
What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging? Readers emailing me and telling me what a great book I recommended or getting a lot of retweets on just one post by readers!
If you would like to curl up to a great book, check out my amazon page: http://amazon.com/author/sylviahubbard

#BlogTour:Easy Like Sunday Mourning by @JennieMarts frm @FabulosityReads
Dating is hard…
Single mom Maggie Hayes puts up a tough front to hide her loneliness, spending her days in the courtroom as a lawyer and her evenings as a closet video gamer. Another heartache isn’t worth the risk, not after her husband left her last year for a Hooters waitress. When she decides to try dating again, a cute video game-designing nerd seems like a safe bet….Until he becomes the prime suspect in a murder.
But falling in love can be murder…
Jeremy Rogers makes a good living designing video games, but nothing prepares him for the real world adventure of being accused of poisoning his own employee. Add in falling for a sassy attorney with a competitive ex-husband, a clingy blonde coworker, and a mammoth-size dog that eats his furniture. Suddenly fighting off a screen full of zombies or preventing an alien invasion seems like child’s play.
Game over!
Maggie and Jeremy find themselves embroiled in a game of death threats, lies, and betrayal. Maggie must learn to trust again while playing the most dangerous game of all. Because defeat could mean not only losing her heart, but also her life…
Revisit the quaint Colorado town of Pleasant Valley and sit in with the Page Turners Book Club, a group of book-loving women who double as extremely amateur detectives. Join them as they set out to help their friend, while devouring good literature and some really great desserts.
“Hey, gals,” Maggie said on a rush of air as Edna threw her arms around her in a theatrical embrace. Maggie gave her a quick squeeze, the smell of lavender and vanilla filling the air as she nestled her chin in the cloud of Edna’s silver curls. Mabel reached out and squeezed Maggie’s hand.
Jeremy seemed to be pleased by the appearance of the two geriatric Nancy Drews, but Maggie’s eyes narrowed with suspicion at Edna. “It’s amazing how you always seem to be in the middle of whatever excitement is going on.”
Edna shrugged and gave her a look of mock innocence. “You know me, honey, if there’s a pile of trouble somewhere, I’ll find a way to step in it.”
Mabel cackled at Edna’s joke, then her laugh turned into a phlegmy smoker’s cough, and Edna turned to slap her on the back. “You’ve got to give up those cancer sticks,” she said in between slaps.
“Ahh, bite me,” wheezed Mabel. “I’m gonna die anyway.”
Ignoring the drama of the elderly women, Maggie pulled on Edna’s sleeve. “Who is that guy you were talking to? And what did you find out?” Regardless of her knack for finding trouble, Edna was good at ferreting out information and could usually be counted on to know the inside scoop.
“Do they know what happened to Jim?” Jeremy absently rubbed his tiny grandmother’s back, used to her frequent coughing fits.
Edna whipped out her notebook, holding it within inches of her nose. “Well, I haven’t had a chance to gather too much information, since we just got here and they won’t let us too close to the crime scene. I’m sure they’re dusting for prints and gathering DNA evidence. The evidence always tells the true story, you know.”
“OMG,” Maggie said, mimicking one of her son’s favorite terms. She tried to control her eyes from rolling into the back of her head as she listened to Edna’s CSI-esque interpretation of the scene. “What do you actually know?”
Edna huffed and lowered her voice. “Well, we know a man was murdered here.”
“Oh my gosh. You think? Maybe you should open your own ladies’ detective agency.”

Burn's World Book Feature hosted by @FabulosityReads
Genre: Romance: Steamy Romance
Publisher: Self Published
"You never forget your first love. Burn couldn't even though she had moved on. An awesome love triange that 'burns' and keeps you reading." Smashwords reviewer
When the school star athlete, blue-eyed, blonde haired, Brody McGraw asks her out, Burn can hardly believe her luck.
In record time they start dating and she is thrilled when she can finally change her Facebook profile status to ‘In a relationship’.
However, Brody’s mother has huge political plans for her family and she makes it clear, they do not include someone with Burn’s color.
When Burn suffers a severe bout of self-loathing because of Dawn McGraw’s words, she is forced to make a decision that will break her heart.
Enter Trojan Catrell, a thug and an enemy of Brody McGraw. He wants what Brody has and he pursues Burn.
Since she hankers after Brody McGraw, Burn’s not interested.
However, Trojan has no intention of taking no for an answer and a long triangle that lasts for years ensues.
When he sees me, he smiles. A sheepish smile. Again, he’s wearing a long-sleeve black shirt, dark jeans, dreads tied back, and a stud in his ear. He has no other jewellery on.
“What’s your pleasure, sir?” I ask notepad and pencil in hand.
You.
I smile.
“What do I have to do to get you to get on the bar and do a Coyote Ugly for me?”
I look at the ceiling, then at him. “You’d have to dance with me.”
“No way!” he laughs. “I’ll just have a beer.”
“What kind of beer, sir?”
He narrows his eyes at me. “You choose. Impress me.”
“O … kay. One ginger beer coming up.”
“Ginger beer? What the fuck?!”
“And how would you like your ginger beer, sir? Rare, medium-rare, well done …?”
“Lemmee think …on a long body shot.”
I giggle and walk away to fetch the beer. When I return, it’s with an icy-cold Stella Artois and the entire staff.
His eyes flit around. “What the …?”
To his absolute horror, we clap and sing Happy Birthday to him.
He sinks lower into his seat and eventually puts his hand over his eyes. “Burn, I’m gonna fucking kill you!” he mutters as Tong Carlos and Madonna link arms and dance around.
My response is to “Yip! Yip!”
“Hooray!” they chorus.
When they leave, he tries to glare at me and fails. “I’m gonna get you back for this,” he warns. sinking further into his chair. “I promise.”
“Whaddyamean? You want them to sing in Chinese? I can arrange …”
“No!”
“Okay, okay!”
“So, what are you doing here?”
He shrugs. “Was in the neigborhood. ‘Sides, you promised me a drink and …”
“Ah.”
“It’s my birthday on Saturday and I’m having it at Danes. I’d like you to come.”
I wasn’t expecting him to invite me to a party.
“I want you to come. Bring your friends too.”
“Danes? Bring my friends? Wow! Really? Man, am I impressed!”
He nods. “I’ll send a car for you guys.”
My jaw drops. He’ll send a car! This is just too good to be true. Hang on, I’m underage. Has he forgotten? Danes won’t allow me in.
“What? You need a written invitation or something?’
I shake my head. “Only one problem – my age. I tried to get fake IDs, but the guy stiffed us for our money and …”
“Why ya trippin’? Just be there. I got it covered.”
“Whaaaaat?!” I feel faint with excitement. “You can get us in? Really?”
“Really.”
“I …” Wow! My friends will worship me for life if I can get them into Danes. How do I pass on it?
I look at him with one eye closed. “What’s the catch?”
“Catch?” He thinks about it. “One body shot.”
“Get lost!”
He laughs. “I’m kidding!”
“No strings attached?”
“None whatsoever. But …this …” He wags his finger between us – it don’t count as a date. We straight?”
I nod. “We straight.” Hell, the dudes getting us into Danes – no more trippin’ from me.
“Say yes.”
I smile. “Yes!”
His turn to smile. “Cool.” He looks pleased.

BOOK EXCERPT
He stood before her, pressing kisses to her neck. Then his lips covered hers. Soft. Persuasive.
She resisted him at first, but the memory of his lovemaking warmed her blood and she relaxed against him. The unknown word he’d spoken came to mind and she twisted away from him. “I’m not so sure I should let you touch me, ’specially since I don’t know what you said earlier. What was that anyhow?”
“I said you should stop talking like a slut.”
She mashed his toes with her foot. “How dare you talk to me like that?”
“Ouch! If you insist on treating sex as if it is some sort of pill—”
“If you were sensitive to my needs, I wouldn’t have to resort to asking for sex.”
He narrowed his eyes. “You know what? I’m going to give you what you want.”
That said, Christophe pressed his lips to hers, forcing her mouth open. She fought him, but this time he ignored her attempts to escape.
The intensity of his kiss frightened her. His grip on her arms was too tight and she felt suffocated by his strength. “No, Christophe, I—”
His hand glided under her shirt and the words lodged in her throat. She cast aside her objections, swept away by the fire his touch lit on her insides.
They landed on her bed, struggling to free themselves of their clothing. Minutes later, Christophe reduced her to an orgasmic shudder.
Then they started over.
When they were satisfied, she panted against his chest.
Christophe eased away from her and rolled onto his back to stare into a corner of the room.
Now what was wrong with him? She raised herself up on her elbow. “What’s bugging you now?”
It took him a while to look her in the eyes. “D’you realize I just raped you?”
She almost giggled. “Well, it was the best rape I ever had.”
He sighed. “I’m serious. You said no, and I didn’t listen.”
He murmured something she didn’t hear and rolled onto his side, away from her.
Anya stared at a mole on his shoulder, unable to believe what she was seeing and hearing. Was he serious? Wasn’t she supposed to be the basket case?
She scratched at the skin around the cast. It was itching like hell lately.
Christophe got up and went into the bathroom. The toilet flushed and she waited for him to come back to bed. Instead, he got a pair of jeans from the cupboard and pulled them on, along with a tee-shirt.
Anya gaped at him. “Where the hell d’you think you’re going?”
“Home. I need to think.”
“What d’you need to think about, Christophe?”
“Things.”
She yanked her shirt on and stood in front of him. “Every time I get mad and tell you to leave, you refuse to go. Now, we don’t even have a serious quarrel and you’re running away. What’s wrong with you?”
He slipped both hands in his pockets and wouldn’t look at her. “I have to go.”
Using her hand, she tipped his head so she could see his eyes.
He was in pain.
She didn’t understand what the problem was, but something had gone terribly wrong. She grabbed his arms and spoke softly to him. “Don’t walk out on me now. I don’t know what’s going on with you, or what you think you did, but I need you.”
“I’m sorry, Anya.” He stepped out of her grasp and walked away.
She sank on the bed, rubbing the frown line on her forehead. Would he be all right? Her heart rate went up and she pressed a hand to her chest. Christophe had left, but she needed to check whether he’d locked up.
The lock was engaged and she was alone in the house. She leaned against the front door, feeling as if she’d bought a bus ticket and the driver had dropped her off miles away from her destination.
Her eyes smarted, but she would not cry. While she was sure Christophe’s withdrawal was directly related to her, she sensed there were other factors at play.
If he didn’t want to talk, how could she get to the root of what was eating him?
She resisted him at first, but the memory of his lovemaking warmed her blood and she relaxed against him. The unknown word he’d spoken came to mind and she twisted away from him. “I’m not so sure I should let you touch me, ’specially since I don’t know what you said earlier. What was that anyhow?”

Her eyes smarted, but she would not cry. While she was sure Christophe’s withdrawal was directly related to her, she sensed there were other factors at play.
If he didn’t want to talk, how could she get to the root of what was eating him?

Why did you choose to write
this particular book?
I feel like this story chose me. I’m a vessel to tell this story, almost
like automatic writing. I was shown a glimpse of what was, what is and what
could be.
How much of the book is
realistic?
Even though Wicked is a fantasy, some elements are very realistic. The
CIA really did have a Project Stargate that researched military application of
psychic abilities. The Otherkin community is very real and vast. The locations
in my book are described as how they actually are. All of the locations visited
on the Earthly plane really do exist.
Can you tell us about your
main character?
Sev is an amalgam of many goddesses and spirits that all share similar
energies. At her core, she’s very driven by a strong set of values. She cares
deeply for other people. Her biggest strength is her sense of humor and her
uncanny was of perceiving things. She loves Luc and is completely enamored with
him, as he is her. They’re completely devoted to one another.
Have you included a lot of
your life experiences, even friends, in the plot?
I haven’t really included people I know so much, although certain
elements of Luc and Michael are based on my husband. I went through a period in
my life from 2008 - 2012 where a lot of my friends passed away and for the
first time in my life, I knew what it felt like to be sad. Before that, I had
never really experienced loss or sadness. I handled it all very well. I also endured
a few major betrayals during that time and they influenced certain elements of
Wicked.
Have you developed a
specific writing style?
My writing style is definitely campy, goofy, irreverent, offbeat,
quirky, satirical and witty.
Did writing this book teach
you anything and what was it?
I did learn many things. I was not looking forward to formatting in
Scrivener, but it turned out to be so easy. I’ve learned a lot about other
people. Like, writing and publishing this book really did teach me who my real
friends were, because they were supportive and happy for me when my book was
published.
Do you have an organized
process or tips for writing well? Do you have a writing schedule?
When I’m working on a novel, I write all day, seven days a week. My process
starts out with putting together a playlist of music and listening to it. While
listening to my playlist I daydream up the whole story. Then I use Astrology
for Writers and Tarot for Writers by Corrine Kenner to do a loose outline
that’s usually a page long. Then I just start writing and it all flows very
naturally.
Tell us about your new
book? What’s it about and why did you write it?
Lured, the sequel to Wicked, is much darker and more introspective.
While still being just as comedic and having the same level of twist and turns.
Wicked was about initiating action. Lured is more about reflection and moving
on from the past. All of the characters will be back… Sev, Luc, Leon and Ace.
I’ve also added in a few new characters that are deliciously dark like Cain and
Vlad (who was the historical basis for Dracula). Lured also delves deeper into
the back story and the whole shadow government storyline figures much more
prominently.
What kind of support, if
any, have you received from friends in the writing industry?
I do have friends in the industry. Some work for publishers and others
are consultants. Some are designers, others do marketing. They’ve all been very
helpful. I’ve not really asked for their help, except to let me know what they
think of my advertising copy and stuff like that. Or if someone gives me a
price quote for a service that sounds really unreasonable, I’ll check with my
friends to verify if my suspicions about unrealistic pricing are accurate or
not… They’ve helped me from getting scammed.
What other jobs have you
had in your life?
My first job was when I was in high school and that was at a bookstore,
of course. When I graduated from high school, I worked in IT first as a
Technical Analyst and then as a Systems Administrator before deciding to go to
college and pursue my dream. My very first start in publishing was actually as
a model. I modeled for various magazines. Yet, I found that I really wanted to
be admired for my mind and not for my appearance. So, I started working at
publications as a Junior Designer and worked my way up to Creative Director
before switching to Advertising, Marketing, Promotions and Public Relations
since those were a much better fit for my outgoing personality.
Do you intend to make
writing a career?
Yes, I intend for writing to be my career while still focusing on art
and filmmaking as well. I originally went to school for film. Wicked started
out as scripts for a sitcom. I ended up falling in love with publishing. But,
I’d still love to turn the Seven Deadly Sins series into a visual format for
cable or television.
Wicked Book Description
If you're a fan of humorous, offbeat, quirky, satirical and witty metaphysical/visionary fantasy then Wicked is right up your alley; since it's an absurd yet thought-provoking combination of all of the above.
The universe started with a bang... And so does Wicked!

Angels and demons and dragons... Oh my! Earth: it's the promised land for Kin, beings from the Astral Planes. Some, beings of light. Others, the Fallen, beings of unimaginable evil... Seven Cyn, a confident and empowered modern woman, is Kin and a CIA Operative. With her best friend Leon in tow, she flies to Wales in pursuit of an ancient relic, the Spear of Destiny. Then throw the enigmatic Luc into the mix as he and Sev discover a love that defies the stars. Yet, there is a catch... Sev has been tasked with ending his life. Along with a twisted pixie named Ace, they uncover the location of the Spear and end up in a race against time with the survival of the whole entire Universe left hanging in the balance in a battle between good verses evil. This unlikely odd-coupled menagerie comes up against a shadow government run by Dark Entities and Fallen Angels possessing mortal souls. Will Sev unlock the secrets of the Spear in time to avert universal disaster or will the Universe fall into utter darkness? Has Sev finally bitten off more than she can chew? Filled with believable characters and injected with a heaping dose of sarcasm and wit... And just as many twists and turns; Wicked promises not to disappoint. This lighthearted energetic, fast-paced romp will certainly open your mind and tickle your funny bone. Wicked is kinda like this... Take satirical chick lit... Place that in a contemporary fantasy setting... And then throw in the Apocalypse just for good measure. That's Wicked! And That + Wicked = Awesome!
Wicked is filled with all of the no-holds-barred thrills of your average adventure. Be prepared to sit on the edge of your seat as you are transported into the depths of a rich and dark fantasy world not unlike that of your own, but with a few unique and dynamic twists. Take a globe trotting trek into a world where nothing is quite as it seems. Wicked has enough pulse pounding chases, fights, heists, shadow government conspiracy theories and treasure hunts to appeal to not only die-hard fantasy fans; but your average adventure enthusiast. Be prepared for the wild high-flying ride of your life. And just hope that the good guys win.
