Sin's Iniquity - Chapter 24

WOW! I didn't know I had gotten so much writing done tonight. I'm already at chapter 26 but I can't just post it all at once. This story's really giving me a chance to flesh out my Bellini men. Delano's getting on my last MF nerve though.

Anyhoo, I'm going to tally up the numbers on the contest for the Bellini and Hearts name. I got a great gift to give the winner.

I'lll post the names when I'm all done and then the books.

Enjoy....

Yeah i know it's short but I gotta edit the rest and I'll post some more as soon as possible before I leave from work...

Sin's Iniquity - Chapter 23.2

I had a response from all those comments yesterday, but I left it at home and I didn't want to NOT post, so I'll be back late tonight to post it in an author's interuption.

Not to worry, I won't make the AI the last post for this blog (that's for all my old readers who always worry about that.)

Enjoy...

Sin's Iniquity - Chapter 23

Discussion topic for this post from all the comments I received from last post. What is your definition of incest?

Even when I looked up this term, I found that it is so vast that it's hard to say what exactly would be deemed incest?

  • in·cest (ĭn'sěst') Pronunciation Key n. (from dictionary.com)
*Sexual relations between persons who are so closely related that their marriage is illegal or forbidden by custom.
*The statutory crime of sexual relations with such a near relative.

It never states by blood or not and that's where I'm having the conundrum at. Help and your thoughts please.

Enjoy...

Sin's Iniquity - Chapter 22.2

I should let you know that you're going to hate me at the end of this....I haven't checked my mail for any more offline comments, but I'll talk to you later. Hope your Monday is not going as bad as mine. I just found out my schedule will be changed to an 8 to 5. Yuck! My kids get out at 3pm and I don't have anyone to help me pick them up. This makes me feel so crappy and I almost wish I could a full time writer so I could just depend on myself like I've been doing.

oh well, that's the struggle of a single mother, huh?

I'll try to post more later, but no physical threats. Enjoy...

stop sitting there baffled and confused. Hit the Comment tab and let me know what you're thinking because as super powered that I am at writing, my mind reading skills are sadly lacking. I'd love to know what's on your mind, please....

Sin's Iniquity - Chapter 22

okay we have a frustrated reader (sexually frustrated, I mean)

Q: Sylvia when are they going to have sex?

A: Since I just go with the flow of the story (I'm basically just writing for Sinclaire and Dwight) I really can't say but I didn't want to ignore you since you sound really upset about it.

And another one asking about my personal life:

Q: Sylvia, I love every one of your stories. My boyfriend who hardly wants to read his mail just read Mistaken Identity and he really liked it, but we were talking and he said a writer like you must have experienced those things in order to write about it. I follow your blog and all your writings, and I told him that you're just a good writer. So which is it?

A: Are you asking if I've ever been in a threesome or have I had the pleasure of two men but at the same time or have twins ever pulled the wool over my eyes like that story? Well since I can't get an answer right away in order to find out which is it, I'll say yes, yes and no. You figure out what I'm answering, LOL. Now can a writer write about an experience passionately without experiencing it? I would have to say yes to that as well. I wrote about killing very passionately in Stone's Revenge and I haven't killed anyone yet. And that's all I'll have to say about that.

and yes, I would love a Dwight right about now, because I'm just so in love with him too.

Will try to post more later, but it's a Monday... Enjoy...

Sin's Iniquity - Chapter 21.2

Okay, I know u guys are emailing offline and Ihaven't addressed anything. The majority of your questions if answered would reveal the story line so I'll answer what I can remember right now without saying anything.

Q: Will Sinclaire and Dwight get together to find out they can share information

A. No, why should they when their relationship is usually all the speak about and why would one know something is going on other than what's going on in their individual lives.

Q. I read and loved all the Hearts and Bellini series. I would like to buy the book on all of them. Can you name all of them?

A. Right now with the contest going on, I can't name them all, but I'll note them after this book is over with.

I'll answer more later.

Enjoy....

Good Lawdy, Yesterday, Blogger went down when I was trying to post this until late last night, but I left my memory stick in the car. So I get to work all set to post a couple of chapters and the Internet is just coming up enough for me to post this real quick. I really will try to post the rest later tonight. Sin's Iniquity - Chapter 20

I just finished up the complicated timeline for this story. Oh my gawd, I almost confused myself. I haven't had to use a calculator so much since Stone's Revenge and never so detailed.

I won't reveal it until near the end when all heck breaks loose, because I put in plot revelations and you're going to be mad at me, but it's real pretty and interesting.

I won't talk so long this time, although I'm so excited about the Oscars and if this story last that long I won't be doing any posting the day before, of or after because I even take off my benefit job for the Oscars. that's how much I love 'em

Just to give you a dropping clue, pay attention to when Dwight talks about his "wife." And that's all I got to say about that.

Oh yeah, your assignment today... if you're read a book by me and you haven't done so as of yet, I would like you to go to my website's contact page (http://sylviahubbard.com/contact_us.html) and post a review about that book and then send that review out to your mail list, your book club and any other reader you know and encourage them to visit the site to buy a book. Even if its the free book Road to Freedom, LOL>

Thanks in advance.

Sin's Iniquity - Chapter 19.2

Great observation by my wonderful readers. (see last comments to see what I’m referring to)

Let's really analyze this as I did with myself last night while cooking pancakes sausage and eggs for dinner. I've been known to push the buttons before and there ain't no shame in my game of making my readers feel real uncomfortable. If you know me (from Teach Me to Love, Mistaken Identity, Sweet Reunion and especially Diary of A... I can be real kinky and freaky. What would happen if Sinclaire was Mel's daughter for real? That would mean she was having relations with her sister's daddy. That would be pushing the envelope, and cause a major conflict because did Dwight fall in love with Sinclaire because she resembled her mother or because he actually really feels something for her?

Just writing this I realized where the really bad thing in the story has to happen so if I start not to make sense then it's because I'm going to have to do the bad thing I predicted I must do in order to get Dwight to realize who he really is in love with.

You know I just got a complaint that my author notes are becoming longer and longer. I think because I want my readers to know exactly where I'm coming from.

Weird thing: I was lurking today in an I/R group and it was really weird to hear them speak about me. I mean I was endeared with the accolades that they gave me and my writing and I was even honored that someone took the time to criticize my writing.

But I would like to say if you are not pleased by what I write, I'd like you to please let me know offline if you don't want to say it while I'm writing. I really don't mind but sometimes I wonder why do they go and plaster it all over a review site before telling the author first? Maybe because the writing just made them so angry they had to shout it? I guess, but that's life and all I can do is say I can't please everyone.

I've been trying to go through all my work and let readers know when they download anything if there's a unedited version or not. If you bought an e-book that I later edited and you really would like the professional edited version, I don't mind appeasing you to see if that will make you feel better. (But don't be filling my mailbox out for free books cause sistah got bills to pay.)

One reader - and I get this a lot - remarked that my plots are too complicated. Well, I'm a complicated person and nothing is ever just a or b or c with me. I have to go through a lot of spaces commas and subplots and love is never easy. Anything easy ain't worth appreciating and if romance was easy, there would be a lot more people in love, LOL.

I'm basically called a romance writer, because essentially, there is someone falling in love somewhere in my plots. I believe all good stories have a romance element in them. Whether it's for two people, a person and a place, a person and cause, or something that loves something else (speaking of sci-fi or paranormal). But... I am not JUST a romance writer. I am also a suspense writer and I love as many roadblocks as possible in order to achieve a good romance. (I throw I lot of them in there), but I try to keep it as uncomplicated as possible.
Really I do. Now just because you don't catch my red herrings (something intended to divert attention from the real problem or matter at hand; a misleading clue) in the beginning (and I've gotten so good at them that I don't even know I dropped them) I can't help it that by the time you get to the end, you're like oh my gawd, when did that happen, he did what? Oh no that heifer author didn't do that?!

Which of course you will do at this one because even as i write this my brain is coming up with something even more vicous than anything and yes I will spoil it right now and say, I'm going to have to hurt Sinclaire and you won't like me for one bit.

So why do I offer a good story for free? Yeah, I get that question a lot.

It's a long story, but heh, if you're reading this far, I got time.... LOL...

WHY I OFFER FREE BOOKS BY SYLVIA HUBBARD

Long long ago in a planet far away.... okay, that's just corny so here goes... In the process of trying to find a publisher for stealing innocence I received several rejections letters (almost fifty which i did burn because they really made me depressed- but I should have made them into that toilet tissue that lulu offers so I could wipe my butt with them, LOL).

Too long. Too complicated. Too many characters.

I had re-edited the story over and over again trying to appease these people until I finally got the POV right, and got down to under ten main characters. All carefully placed in the story to give you - the reader - a very enjoyable experience.

If you've ever read the book you'll see that it's really good and I love to pick it up and read it every once in a while like I’ve never read it before because its really interesting. (I think I'm my biggest fan).

Anyhoo, I decided if no one else didn't like it, I'd just post it for free because I was reading this article about giving a story away for free. I posted it to my site, but even after sending out a great free book campaign back in 2001 no one downloaded the book. Or at least I thought they didn't.

So I pushed the book on my other writing site into oblivion and didn't think anything about it.
Six months later, I checked my stats on that site instead of just recording the front page stats. I wanted to see all the pages and the ones that my visitors entered on that was popular. This strange oblivion site had gotten over 1800 hits and people in six months had downloaded the book 900 times. That meant half the people visited ended up downloading the book.

Curious, because I had forgotten about this book because I had started to push Stone's Revenge, I checked to see why would anyone be so interested in this oblivion site. Well, people had been leaving comments in the guest book (http://motownwriters.com/steal.html) and the notifications were going to my junk mail so I never knew people were visiting this site. They were saying how great the book was and how they couldn't wait for part 2.

Just because, I finished up the second stealing innocence II: The ravishment and posted that. That's my second best seller which is funny. People get that one because of the first and they say they enjoy both of them. Now of course they are eagerly waiting for stealing innocence III: lethal heart, but Like i said, I really am crossing my fingers on a publisher this year so I can push that one out with them for better distribution and to boost income for the first two books.

As of Jan 1, 2007, stealing Innocence I is not available for free anymore, but after that lesson and after over 20,000 downloads of the book (in the last six years), I said, it was really cool to have it available and to see how people love my writing.

I realized then not to change my style of writing (which is why I told this long boring story) and that people are either going to love my writing or hate my writing and I appreciate both opinions because I know I can't please everyone, but then like myself, I like to be challenged as a reader and even though I love the cinderella story, I don't want you to think you're in one until the end when ...

they live happily ever after.

I'll try to post some more later of Sin's Iniquity.

Enjoy...

Sin's Iniquity - Chapter 19

Yes, the love scene is still continuing. You really didn't think THAT was it?! You know Sylvia don't play'dat.

BTW, just thought you guys would love to see my wishlist for my birthday. It's not until September, but I figured If i tell you about it now, you'll have no excuse not to send me something. You can go to Amazon and ship it right to me. Kisses!!!

And funny story...

You know you guys really had me hyped up after Sweet Reunion. A lot of you were asking why hadn't a publishing company picked me up yet, right?

Good news:
So anyways, I go and submit to some anthologies and to some publishing companies. One of my essays was picked up by http://katrinaanthology.com. Go check them out and support their cause for me if you can.

Bad News:
I submitted a book to Awestruck ebook publisher, which I thought was a straight up romance with not so graphic sex as my usual want (like Mistaken Identity or Sweet Reunion). I submitted Deceptive Nights, which in my opinion didn't have a lot of sex in it . I mean not enough to say oh my gawd, this gurl is freaky and certainly not so raunchy like I did in Diary of A.... (If you haven't read that one, you really should cause I just got through reading that one again from a readers opinion and I was cracking up and turned on all through the book. Y'all didn't tell me that one was THAT GOOD.) Anyway, Awestruck sent me a letter back saying that DECEPTIVE NIGHTS was too erotic... I was like hold up, wait a minute. Now I know too erotic. Mistaken Identity and Diary of A... was too erotic. Deceptive Nights (which I even let my own mother edit - she wouldn't touch MI or the Diary because she said she didn't want to know that her daughter knew all those things, LOL) was not a too erotic book. I think I'm going to use that in my publicity. Sylvia Hubbard, too erotic author by Awestruck books, LOL. Too erotic. too funny.

Enjoy...

Sin's Iniquity - Chapter 18.2

Good lawd, the threats are just vicious! Breaking bones and shaking me to death will only do much on getting the story. Now tying me to the chair of my computer might turn me on a little. Side note: Taking my kids hostage is not a threat! I might enjoy that too much! Plus you'll be returning them on your own within days because their like a triple threat version of Dennis the Menance, LOL. Stop threatening me with a good time!

Mondays are so busy and I just got through all my email. I started at 8am this morning. I'm so sorry for not posting sooner.

Sin's Iniquity - Author's Interuption

It's like 9:30 pm in Detroit and I'm finished with the love scene I just haven't posted it yet. Matter of fact, it was so slow at work I got all the way to Chapter 20. I'll post tomorrow.

First off, hello Lola from Nigeria. I haven't heard from you in a while. Now you brought up some very interesting observations, but I don't want to address them YET. They were really deep and oneof the things, I'd forgotten i'd thrown in until you said something, but I don't think anyone else noticed that either about Jackson.

Second, alright, i'll look for another model for the Sweet Reunion cover. It's better than the last.

Third, I am licking ... I'm mean liking... Dwight too, LMOA.

Fourth: reader comment and question: I love Dwight. Hes so good for Sinclaire. I've read both stealing innocences, road to freedom and stones revenge (it was my first book of yours. my friend got that one as a gift for me and I'vebeen hooked to you since william) Where do you get the men from? are they people you really know or do u just make them up as you go? I was fantasizing bout William Stone for a week after I finished that book. is he coming back in any of your other books? i was so happ you brought jaelen back in this book .i missed him. but now i want william back.

author response: boy that's a lot of questions. I need to get paid for this Q&A at the rate y'all going, LOL. okay here goes: William is my first love. I really have no idea where I got that gorgeous man from. I made that story, Stone's REvenge up when i was sixteen years old and at the time i was still a virgin using love scenes I'd only read about as fuel to my fire and men from old historical romances as contemporary men, but William was cut from a very different cloth being the son of a serial killer so as i created him (and originally he was black, just as Dwight was originally black, but I turned him white and I turned William hispanic)... as i created William, he shapped into this magnificent being with so much powerful presence he scared me and attracted me. I was always reluctant to jump in his head when he wasn't around abigail, because it was so hard to think likea man, but somehow i pulled it off. somehow, even though I had yet to be invloved with men I was able to bring William to life. I contribut that to being raised by my father. Unlike other girls my age i was raised in a household with my dad only since i was nine years of age and i gues that's why i have no problem telling a man to go to the store and get me the ones with wings... without batting an eye. LOL Next: I get my men from just a lot of men put together stariting with the good qualities of my father. he's a formidable man with a cynical yet powerful presence. he can be mean at one point and just hilarious the next. He can talke with you on any subject you ever thought of and he's mentally stimulating to boot. i think we were the only family in Detroit as i was growing up that faithfully watch jeopardy everynight. it was about the only thing our family did faithfully. anyway, the other characteristics are from little bits of other men i know. my best friend from high school, my platonic partner in florida, Mr. D from the police and about two more. All of whom I have never to this day have had sexual relations with and still are good friends with (until this time because they are probably reading this and know i'm tlaking about them, LOL). Now I will admit, Chance Jefferson is the first man I've ever put in a story that is true. He's not (in real life a doctor and his name isn't Chance) but I got him from a guy I know and that's all I got to say about that (he's probably reading this too.) next... william will come back in the book after The other side of love... if you haven't picked up Stone's Revenge you probably won't understand what i'm about to say. Remember lydia was searching for her family? Well (and this is an inside secret so shhhhh), Lydia's family is the Bellini's and you knowwhat that means to William right, but you should have figured all that out in the book although a lot ofpeople forget that Lydia's storyline was the only storylinei n Stone's Revenge left opened. (therewere a lot of details in that story). I think i answered everything, but if I didn't you'll let me know for sure.

Fifth: Delores, you are funny. (from the lastcomments you made). A lot of times i read romances and the characters have personal issues (thinking aobut killing themselves, burning, nervous conditions, eating diseases) and the writer will get the reader (or try) to believe that once he/she falls in love this condition just goes away andnever comes back. Now I'm a believer that love has a way of healing and curing a lot of conditions, but some just need to be faced by both arties and then dealt with. She had a lot of problems that love can't just kiss away and I needed Dwight to understand and know what was going on because love makes people better, not perfect. (that probably made no sense, but hey, my brain is shutting down and I'm not even looking at the screen as i type - I'm watchin Step Up (that contemporary dirty dancing movie. Taht actor in it is sooooo sexy and i'm imaging him in one of my stories.) ... okay, back on the subject of responding to delores: the fourth climax will be happening shortly and i will address something else in a moment about this whole durn love scene. (which is why I revealed in the first place that i'm all the way on chapter 20). ... thirdly: for you delores: (and this is a story spoiler) I'm only going to say this once ... this one time so read carefully between the lines, DWIGHT AIN"T NO SAINT. He's a busienss man and he will do whatever it takes to get the job done. WHATEVER! Needless to say that's why he carries a gun on him the majority of the time.

The reason in the beginning why I mentioned about how i'm on chapter 20, which is why I made this author interuption, is because I went back and counted the pages of thsi entire love scene and realized I'd writen a thirteen page (8.5x5.5) love scene. In a smaller book form that's going to jump to about 20 pages. on tope of that, he dont' even stick it in! Who in their right minds would write a thirteen page love scene. Is that normal? Do I write really long love scenes? Is that why some authors piss me off with that paragraph love scene? I tell people I'm not a detail person except when I write love scenes? Why?

The bad part about this all is that if you go back and read from the beginning of the love scene all the way to then, it's really hot and really gets you bothered, right? Now imagine being without a man and reading this.

(raisng my hand)

Maybe its okay to not have a man when writing these scenes becasue if I was being satisfied at home, my love scenes would be short and pathetic like those authors i can't stand to read... and off topic that really does piss me off because they have this great story but the love scenes are shot to hell. He touched her face, they kissed, he pulled her in his arms molding his body against hers and she just knew they would make it to the bed within moments.... the next morning as she laid in his arms.... hold up wait! where'd they go? what'd they do? hold up hold up hold up, cow! i want more....

So that's why I write long love scenes. I just had to come to my own conclusions in my own head.

But I'd really like a man instead of a lot of paper cuts, LOL.

i'm a nut and i really need some help, but until then I'll just keep writing.

PS Sorry for the typos!

Sin's Inquity - Chapter 17

Alright I'm sneaking in another chapter because it just plopped on my lap and no I haven't updated the book, but I'll do it now, I promise and not write another thing today. I don't know, I maybe hold the book until Monday since I haven't sold as many books as my last book, Sweet Reunion.

I should let you know if you're a new reader, the books associated with this book are:

Stealing Innocence (complete)
Stealing Innocence II: The Ravishment (complete)
The Other Side of Love (due out later this year, but a preview is in work in progress on my website)
Sweet Reunion (complete) - but if you read this one, you have to pick up Mistaken Identity first!!!
King's Paradise (Not due out until late this year either, but you can catch a whiff of King Heart in Sweet Reunion).

The books that are complete can be purchased at: http://lulu.com/sylviahubbard

I hope to release Sweet Reunion soon under my publishing company because it's connected with Mistaken Identity.

BTW, do me a favor. Go to the Sweet Reunion book at my bookstore (http://lulu.com/sylviahubbard) and let me know how old do you think the woman on the cover looks. My friend Octavia Lesley from Grown Folks Entertainment (http://freewebs.com/grownfolksentertainment) said the woman on the cover looks over forty. I said she looks early thirties (Grae is about to turn 30 in the book.). I'd really love your comment.

For the Bellini and Heart Contest, someone turned in an entry two pages long on all the mentioned characters. I was floored at how many names they had because I didn't remember all of them. WOW!

I'll announce the winner at the end of this month and I was actually thinking that if Dark Facade was finished in the editing stages, I'll give the winner of that contest a free book. Everyone's dying to know the end, and i figure since i only received three entries to that contest, that'd be great.

Okay, I know you want me to stop talking.

Enjoy....

Sin's Iniquity - Chapter 16.2

today I'm going to work on updating the book. Yes, I'm leaving for today and I might not post until tomorrow morning. Depends on how exhausted I am once I get home tonight. (It's Monk's season premiere.)

Oh and don't forget to pass the word around if you are enjoying the story. Word of mouth is better than any marketing ploy in the world and the more people talk the better it is for me and you.

Once I get so many people knowing about what I do, I won't have to work at this job anymore and I can just stay at home and pump out books. Then maybe all those migraines will really go away, right? LOL.

I did have something else to mention, but today I'm tired and I just want to take a nap. You guys must be praying or something because our phones broke at work so I couldn't take calls so I worked on the story.

This scene was very mentally exhaustive. I don't know why, but i was and yes, I'm going to get you upset in advance and let you know this is a cliffhanger.

Sin's Iniquity - Chapter 16

I know you're really mad at me! (I got eight texts to my personal phone number to post this morning, which I thought were hilarious). I had no Internet access yesterday AT ALL! I was released from work early and went home to jump on the Internet, but nothing was up. I went to Barnes and Noble to get on there's and my laptop wouldn't do anything either.

Grrr!

I never realized how dependant we are upon technology

Sorry about the wait but I do find it strange that i get more hits when i don't post than when I do.

Reader question: I'm a first time reader of yours and i'm really enjoying Sin's Iniquity. I don't mean to be crude or put a rush on it ,but when are we getting to the hot steamy sex scenes everyone's talking about?

Author's answer: Soon cause I think I've built enough tension.

Reader question: What happens to Emporer Heart story?

Author's answer: I forget everyone in Yahoo is afforded the opportunity to see that story. All I can say it's coming. Maybe I'll repost that story for everyone on the blog since its been so long since anyone has seen it.

Enjoy...

Sin's Iniquity - Chapter 15.2

Author's Note: this is for all my overnight readers and my early morning readers I'm posting the last of Chapter 15 to make the morning and afternoon readers jealous, LOL.

Also, I need to respond to some offline comments.

Offiline reader comment: What's with the Chance and Jackson thing? You never put two extra possible interest in the story before.

Author Answer: First the Jackosn thing. There is possible interest here and there, but that's because Sinclaire was beautiful before meeting Dwight, he just brought out her beauty more to the surface, but that always happens when you're in love, huh?

Offline question :Will Lethal be in this one?

AA: No

Last post question (paraphrased): What is up with SI 3?

AA: I'm holding off on the release until I get word back from a book deal hopefully about Tanner's Devil. I decided if and when I do sign a contract with a publishing company I will stipulate that I don't lose my character's rights. Once I get a major deal (and I would) like one, I will have all rights to my characters and their likenesses so that I may sell the stories to different publishing houses, but I'm able to carrying them on into various stories anthologies and so forth. The only bad thing about this will be is that I will have to change my name, so be on the lookout (when I get my publishing deal - i'm going to stop saying if) for slight name changes.

Wish me blessings in that endeavor because I don't believe in luck!

Sin's Iniquity - Chapter 14

Author Note: Wow! The response to my last note was amazing. I loved the sililoquies that were born from just that. For the past few days I was feeling kinda depressed because along with that predicatable email, I got this really awful review about Sweet Reunion and I wasn't feeling nothing. Matter of fact there were times in the middle of the night I wanted to shuck this whole story because I was actualy scared because I didn't think I could make it good. It's really difficult to weave this story out. More difficult than all the others because I know what's to happen and for some reason I don't want it to happen and I'm trying to figure an out for Sinclaire but as with all things it's inevitable, because sometimes in life we can't fight fate or destiny and in my sick mind, this was Sinclaire's fate from the get go. I dnt' know, maybe I'm getting depressed about that fact, more than the comments because most times bad critism of my work doesn't faze me. There have been some great novels I read that I thought were the worst and like many other people I speak to, I still don't get toni morrison as much as I try or Terry McMillian. (matter of fact, reading TM makes my brain hurt) and I know that's just awful to say because some people would disown me for saying that outloud, but I just can't do the first person switching people thing. (head hurting just thinking about my waiting to exhale experience).

In any case, you're right Suprina. All romances are supposed to have a happy ending or HEA, but I've decided just not the one that you all want.

Delores all I can say is WOW!!!! Your analysis of this story is just WOW!!!! Even I'm taking notes. I had a timeline which i made a mistake and threw out like a dumbbutt and now I have to make another one just to make sure that I got my dates up to par when the real suspense ride begins.

Cinquetta: I'm sorry to have made you so upset and yes, I do consider us Cyberbuddies, LOL.

Okay, here's the deal, I'll work on a happy ending. Yes, Sinclaire deserves one and even Dwight does too after all he's been through. But you remember, in order to get to the sun we must first weather the storm.

Enjoy...

Sin's Iniquity - Chapter 13.2 (c) 2007 Sylvia Hubbard

Sin's Iniquity - Chapter 13

Author's Note: Chapter 12 was short. I don't know why but I'm moving on the 13. The story starts to get a little complicated, which is why I was slow to posting all weekend because I had so much to think about and construct.

I spent time with the kids and I'm starting to see this new beau. He's a sweet guy and he makes me laugh, but (and if you're familiar with my rantings on How To Love A Black Woman) I'm not one to just fall in love easily, so I take it slow.

In any case, it's hard not to incorporate him into the story I'm writing and the things he makes me laugh about - which could be why Dwight's suddenly have this droll sense of humor.

In any case, I'm still trying to figure out Annelle's deal and working it out with Sinclaire. Now, last night, my brain went ahead of schedule and mapped out what's to come for Dwight and I want to tell you in advance you better not be mad at me. I won't tell you, of course, but my reasons for dragging out their growing love has a lot of purpose.

I was really planning on changing the story and this was a pivotal chapter in the book where I could have went either way - onebeing more complicated to explain than the other. I choose the easier way and let it go at that.

you won't like it. You won't like me for a while (just a couple of hours maybe or I might cliffhanger for about a day or so, but don't you dare purchase any tickets to detroit to find me and hurt me because then you'll never knowthe ending and if... if, well everything will turn out right)

Although I was challenged by a reader who asked why do I have happy endings all the time? Why can't things work out for the worse or she really doesn't end up with who we all want her to end up with?

At the beginning ofthis story I did ask that same questions and wondered was there a way to create a happy ending without the beginning love affair? And then another comment said I was doing the same thing as I did in all the other stories and that I had become predictable.

At that time, I decided maybe I should do soemhting really different. Something that no one would ever do in a love story.

I would change the path of two people who were meant to be together.

I know this all doesn't make sense to you now, but maybe it will soon.

Stop jumping to conclusions.

This could all be some strange ramblings of an insane writer.

Oh BTW, I did get a migraine yesterday, but this one was because of Aunt Dottie visiting. (I know TMI) Strangely though, it didn't stay and linger andsettle like it usually does and I was able to enjoy the day off with my children (even sit at a movie - flushed away) without feeling the pain of all the bright lights. After the movie, my body shut down in a three hour coma, but after I awoke, I felt even better and actually got up and cooked dinner, did some exercise on my new ball and then wrote down my eating habits.

I'm trying to get rid of my hips because at this rate, if I stepped off a plane in Africa, I'd be crowned a queen.

okay, now that I dropped that bombshell on you, thanks for all your comments and story analysis. I love it when you guys do that. Please don't stop it and try to enjoy...

Sin's Iniquity - Author Interuption

Reader Comment: Sylvia, I am a big fan of your work. I've read almost everything you've read and I think you should receive more recognition than what you're getting. I tell all my friends about you and I encourage them to support you by buying your books (because I can't afford to donate a large donation like I would like to, I'm trying to support you in other ways.) But that's not why I'm writing to you. I wanted to comment on Sin's Iniquity. I love Dwight! I think he's just so cool calm guy that's just waiting for Sinclaire to put down her own fears and like him too. What bothers me about this story is that, it's not like your other stories. The two main characters are usually having sex right now. (Not that I read your books because of the sex, but you can't kick Zane off the board most times in my opinion. I've attacked my husband in the middle of the night just thinking about your love scenes. They have a way of staying with you.) So I can't understand why you haven't gotten Dwayne and Sinclaire together yet? I mean I love how he wants to be a gentleman, but come on Sylvia, I know you have something up your sleeve cause your love scenes always come on differently every time and I'm just going crazy wondering when it's going to shoot off.

Author's Answer: Yes, I know I'm moving a bit slow with this story, but as you all know (or some of my usual readers know) I do have something up my sleeve. I'm laying ground and I want to make sure when "IT" happens, you guys are just as affected as I want you to be. I want you to understand all of it and the impact of what's going to happen. After chapter twelve, things should start to pick up.

Reader Question: Why are your chapters so long for this bok?

Author's Answer: I don't know. I'm so focused on the story I really haven't been paying attention to the chapter breaks. In the final version, I may break it down to have more chapters, but with there being so much story for this one, I find it difficult to cut down scenes (unless I can torture you with a big cliffhanger, LOL)

Sin's Iniquity - Chapter 10.2

Long day, long night... Didn't get much done. Migraine creeping up but trying to ignore it.

My day fixed my window with vinyl so that it looks like there's a window there. (So sweet of him) until I can come up with the money to get that fixed (Not til next month.)

I think i'm becoming paranoid because I keep jumping up in the middle of the night and staring at my car.I don't go out anymore because I'm terrified I'll lose my parking spot and I'll have to park across the street.

I really hate being violated. It's almost like rape.

grrrrr....

In anycase, I brought you another part of this chapter and I'll answer a few more questions and give you another update of things.

@ offline message #1: (Question) Where's Lethal and stealing innocence III?

Lethal is almost done. It's going through the second round edits. (my timeline was so off it was ridiculous, but its hard when you go from the future to the past and then back to the present.)

Stealing Innocence I update: As of tonight, Stealing Innocence will no longer be available for free. Road to Freedom will be the offered novel in its place. Anyone who knows the series, knows this will be a great loss to the free reading community (don't be mad at me, please).

I plan to take all three novels on a great spree or hopefully sell the line to a publisher, but keep the rights to my characters.

There was another update:

Tonight, (if you haven't) check out the new covers to the following books at my website: http://lulu.com/sylviahubbard and then go to my website at http://sylviahubbard.com/contact_us.html, sign the guestbook and tell me what you thought of them:

  • Sweet Reunion
  • Deceptive Nights
  • Teach Me To Love

In my next post, I'll premiere Sin's Iniquity new cover in the next post and let you know how you can get a download of the book up until Chapter 10.

Enjoy....

Sin's Iniquity - Chapter 8

Author's Note: Today was a bad day. My car got broken into AGAIN. 2nd time is a 7 day period. You'd think I was driving a damn Benz! But it's a 91 Honda! This time they cut the plastic vinyl over the window they busted in order to get in the car. People are just durn trifling.

It's a sad sad day and it took a little longer to write this one than I thought. I had to cancel my trip on the 20th to St Louis to be in a book fair because I have to spend that money on getting the window fixed.

Depressed... depressed.... depressed....

I hope your day is better than mine... be blessed. Okay, here ya go...more later...Enjoy...

Sin's Iniquity - Chapter 5.3

Author's Note: right now, I'm just angry a bit. Someone broke into my car by smashing the window WHEN THE DOOR WAS ALREADY UNLOCKED!!!!! I don't mind that they were in desperate need of money, but if you're a crook, could you at least make it a little easy for the person you're robbing by not causing unnessary damage to the car.

Oh gawd, I feel a blog entry coming on, cause I need to rant about this, LOL, even though I know no one would care. BTW, guess what, I got on Fox 2 Detroit community website. Go to http://community.myfoxdetroit.com/ and scroll down to Entertainment. My blog is featured there. I felt so elated about that and it made my day a little better, but i was still very upset about the car. I'm going to the sewing store to get some vinyl to get that fixed.

Responses to comments:

Anonymous from 2: Ouch! That was a complete downer, but since that doesn't change the price of tea in China, I really can't argue with you. I'll try to do better.

Offline Reader comment: I'm trying to edit as fast as I can post. Right now I'm hungry because I'm fasting so don't expect a NY Times Best seller. But I'll do better.

@ Ronalda: Guess I'm doing something right. Thank you. And yes, the "Demons that Sin has" was a very good pun. I might take that on the promo trail for this, LOL.

Alright, I'll try to post early tomorrow as well and then Sunday, I'll pop this sucker in a book so you can download what we've read so far, just like usual.

For the newer readers, back in the day before I had Internet at home, you would have to wait all weekend until Monday to find out what was going to happen. So I've come a long way, huh?

Enjoy...

“Dwight Bowman, what the hell did you do to her?” Taylor Bellini asked incredulously.

She was about four years his elder and hell on wheels. Her cousins and even her brothers loved to call her Loki’s daughter because she was a fan of mischief and deceit. She loved to cause havoc in people’s lives and could give a flying fig if it hurt someone or not.

Dwight knew her of well because since he had been with Delano Bellini. There had been rumors that Dalton Bellini, who was CEO of Bellini Enterprises, was looking for a vice-president. It was rumored that Dalton had no intentions of picking a male cousin or brother, which meant he was opening up the way for either a female Bellini (there being only two – Taylor and his sister, Angelina) or someone who worked for the Bellini’s in a powerful position who wasn’t a Bellini. Taylor wanted that position more than anything and was willing to do whatever she had to do in order to get herself to that position.

Dwight was a prime candidate and Delano had gone to bat for him when Dalton had called over to inquire. Of course, word got to Taylor about Dalton’s interest in Dwight and she was not happy.

On every turn, she used the opportunity to either make Dwight look bad or make his deals fall through, but proved to be unsuccessful and it didn’t once make Dwight upset or lose control. He rarely lost his temper for anything. Although Delano had been very peeved when a deal fell through for their company because of Taylor’s mischievous ways and wanted to put her over his knee.

When her deceit couldn’t get to Dwight, she called him gay. Being that she was a woman, the remark didn’t bother him, but the fact that she had screamed it at the top of her lungs at the last family gathering had been embarrassing in itself.

He was not gay! “I didn’t do a damn thing,” he growled now at her as he impatiently
waited outside of the bathroom for Sinclaire to stop throwing up.

“Well, you got that poor girl in there throwing up like crazy all over the place and I’m thinking she might need medical attention. So fess up.”

“I didn’t do a damn thing, except kiss her,” he defended himself.

“And what did you say to her?”

“I told her she was beautiful, smart and I wanted the pleasure of her company.”

Taylor looked taken aback. “That’s it? You told her that?”

“Yes, what’s wrong with that?”

She took his thick arm and forced him to step away from the door to speak in confidence to him. “She doesn’t look like the kind of woman that gets compliments, Dwight. You don’t just go around professing your love to strange women just because I called you gay.”

“I didn’t profess any love to her Taylor. I just expressed what I was feeling.” All his senses told him that Taylor wasn’t trying to help, but for some reason he wanted to hear what she was going to advise him of, because nothing like this had ever happened to him before.
Defensively, he said, “And you calling me gay has nothing to do with approaching her. I just happened to meet her and she … I liked her. What’s wrong with telling her exactly how I feel?”

“Because even I couldn’t believe something like that.”

Sourly, he said, “I don’t lie to get ass.”

“But you’re Dwight Bowman,” Taylor said obviously. “A very prominent man in the
business world not only because of your skills, but just because you are associated with the Bellini Enterprise.” This was said with a lot of arrogance in her voice. “And even if she doesn’t know that, you’re white, overly gorgeous and she doesn’t look like she gets a lot of offers even from ugly men. So you being interested could seem very farfetched.”

He started to turn to the door, but she held firm his arm to prevent him.

She spoke quickly. “Just listen to me, Dwight, and even though you say that comment I made hasn’t affected your judgment, maybe the fact that I said it brought out this desperation to find a woman. I mean Delano told me you’ve been to yourself all these years and it was a valid assumption.”

“No, Taylor, it was cold and cruel, but what can I expect from a frigid bitch?”

She only flinched. “I’m not going to stand here and allow you to say those things to me.”

“I’m not going to listen to you try to convince me that I am only attracted to her out of
desperation. I know what I want and I want her.”

Clicking her tongue in disappointment, she shook her head with a look of disappointment on her face. “Always seeking revenge on the woman who didn’t want you, huh? You’ll never get over Amelia, will you? But you plan on making every other woman’s life miserable to pay her back.” Huffing, she said, “You always get what you want, right, Dwight?”

Still hotly angry about what she had said earlier to him, he arrogantly, said, “Yes, Taylor.”

“Except Amelia begging for your forgiveness and wanting to have you back in her arms no matter how much money you’re worth.”

In all his life, he had never wanted to do physical violence on any woman, but Taylor Bellini
could make the Pope want to commit murder. “Your spoiled silly meddling won’t mean a damn thing just in case you get any ideas of my getting what I want.”

“I think it will when you find out she’s gone.”

“Gone? What do you mean gone?” he asked alarmed.

Taylor smiled wickedly narrowing her beautiful olive eyes. “I mean she’s left the building. I gave her my car to get home.”

He cursed loud enough for any one in the vicinity to hear him as he charged inside of the woman’s bathroom. Taylor Bellini was a trifling no good bitch, bent on making anyone in association with her cousin’s lives miserable.

Sin's Iniquity - Chapter 5.2

Author's Note: No I wasn't trying to be funny with that short post. LOL.

Enjoy...

As she relieved her stomach for the second time, she heard someone knocking on the stall’s door.

“Are you okay?” a familiar voice asked.

Sinclaire leaned up against the door and peeked through the slit to see Taylor Bellini standing there looking annoyed at the door with her arms folded over her chest.
“I-I’m fine.” Bile had started to rise in her throat again, but she swallowed that down.

“He sent me in here to check on you. Are you really throwing up?”

She emptied her stomach again. ‘He knew!’ Every inch of her wanted to die in shame.

“Oh lawd, you are throwing up. Open this door,” Taylor ordered.

After spitting the bad taste out her mouth, she opened the stall’s door. Taylor was holding a cup of water and a complimentary bottle of mouthwash from the hotel.

“He said to give you this,” Taylor said. “He looks actually concerned. What did he do?”

“Where is he?” Sinclaire asked, holding her stomach after she drunk the water.

“He was standing outside the door.”

Going over to the sink, in a low voice, Sinclaire insisted, “I-I can’t go out there.”

“What did he do?”

“H-He kissed me.”

Taylor looked at her as if Sinclaire was going to say more, but when nothing else was said, she said, “That’s it?”

It did sound silly to get upset over that.

“Are you a nun?” Taylor asked.

“No,” Sinclaire said.

“Are you gay?”

Disgusted, she almost choked on the swig of mouthwash she took. “No.”

“And you got this upset over a kiss?” Taylor handed her a towel to wipe her mouth. “Then you
might really go all out if you knew he had a suite on the top floor of this hotel and the only reason he probably brought you here-“ She stopped because Sinclaire probably looked ready to pass out. “Are you going to be alright now?”

“I can’t go out there,” Sinclaire shuddered terrified and ready to scream wishing she had her backpack. “Please get him away from the door, so I can sneak out.”

“And where will you go?”

“I’ll catch the bus back to my car.”

Taylor visually assessed her and then took out a valet parking ticket. “Take this outside and take the car home. Call me in the morning and we’ll go get your car.”

Stunned that the woman would assist her at all and so generously took Sinclaire completely by surprised. She knew some things about the Bellini family and no one could ever go on record to say that Taylor Bellini was a generous woman. Matter of fact, Taylor had always come across in the press as a spoil, selfish, woman. “You’re letting me take your car?”

“I’ll get it back and I’m not worried about you stealing it because there’s a tracking device. Plus, Dwight Bowman doesn’t deal with theives. I’ll go out there and distract him and you will slip past us.”

“Thank you.” She held the valet ticket to her chest, gratefully.

“Don’t thank me, because once he realizes what I’ve done, he’s going to be real pissed at me, but then he can stand in line along with my other cousin.” Taylor went towards the door.

“Ms. Bellini,” Sinclaire said.

The woman looked over her shoulder at Sinclaire.

“You’re not as mean as the media makes you out to be.”

“I kind of like that everyone thinks I’m a bitch. So don’t go spreading my businesses.” Taylor winked before leaving out.

Sinclaire sighed thankfully staring down at the valet ticket.

Sin's Iniquity - Chapter 5

Author's Note: Hey, I forgot to mention in chapters 3 and 4 about Michelle the manager at Uniquity. She does have a back story (as if I would have it any other way.) She is the lead character in Stealing Innocence II: The Ravishment.

About Stealing Innocence II: The Ravishment
When Michelle is dealt the ultimate blow of being taken by a dark powerful stranger against her will, she didn’t know how to overcome the hurt inside. @ Anonymous from 4.2 (and for everyone else who calls me that) - I'm kinda digging that Queen of Cliffhangers. I might use that in like a big promo campaign. As for Dwight being older, as always in the beginning I'm looking for compatibility in a couple, but a lot of conflict as to why they shouldn't be together as well. His age could be a hindrance which can draw them apart, but his "experience" can be a boon to her "problem." And that's all I have to say about that.

@ Lashonda: Thanks for liking the story and agreeing that I'm doing a great job posting. If you speak to the oldies I would post a chapter a week sometimes, LOL.

@ Suprina : Now that was pretty deep gurl. I'll take that two cents with happiness.

@ Cinquetta: If you find that condition, please email me (sylviahubbard1@yahoo.com) off loop and let me know. Now about Dwight's second child, you'll just have to wait and see. You know I have something up my sleeve.

Okay, I hope to do three posts today. Enjoy...

Just the thought made her shudder. Dwight Bowman kissing her. No! No! He wouldn’t! He couldn’t. She started to tell him exactly that. “And you won’t–“

His lips dipped down and pressed against hers. It wasn’t even in her instincts to fight him because she had never gotten a kiss stolen from a man before. With a shift of his lips and the delicious flavor of his tongue, it was easy to part her lips so that he tasted her and she was caught up by just the wonderful zest and feel of his lips.

He drew away and their eyes met. “I couldn’t help myself, Sinclaire.”

She reached up and touched her mouth as if her lips had disappeared, but then her hand covered her entire mouth and she shoved herself away from him and desperately looked around. Spotting the bathroom, she ran into it.

Before she could take another breath, just as she had gotten into a stall, her stomach released whatever was in her stomach and she almost didn’t aim correctly in the toilet.

Sin's Iniquity - Chapter 4.2

Author's Note: I know you're getting tired of these notes and probaby saying, would you just get on with the durn story. LOL. In case you're new here or just don't remember, I write these live! Which means I just put on paper about an hour or so before posting these. So quit asking me when is the next post. Compared to last year, I think I'm posting doing pretty good.

Also, as you can see, this says, Chapter 4.2. If you're looking for Chapter 4.1, That was Chapter 4 entry and I just didn't add the 4.1 because readers would get made even before reading because they knew I was going to cliff hanger this baby and I would get threatening phone calls and emails about doing awful things to me if I didn't post very very soon. (I still get them on major cliffhangers, but not so vicious, LOL).

I had some responses from other comments:

@ Anonymous (about Dwight) you should know his age through this entry

@Chandra -(1st issue) send me your dimensions and then I'll see what I can do for you on my next book. (2nd issue) if you look to the left of the page, I changed the donation box again for "sizable donations."

@ Suprina thank you for enjoying the story (that goes out to everyone else who said that too.) I'm enjoying that it too, but like I said before, I make this up as I go. (I'm serious about that). So I don't even know why she cuts herself. (Of course we'll find out why as the story unfolds though cause I'm just as curious as you.)

I know that sound crazy, but really I have no forethought when I venture in these stories except I know that two people will fall in love and one person will most likely die. (And I really don't know who yet so don't you dare call me back and ask me about it - you know who you are.)

As always, enjoy....

Her ears were acting up again, she was sure of it. “The flowers are yours, Michelle?” Sinclaire asked, just knowing she had heard wrong.

“No, they came today for you.” Michelle handed her two cards. “These were with them. I just marked the time they came. By two different florists!”

Sinclaire was again struck speechless as she slowly opened her first ever card from someone. This was the first time in her life someone had given her flowers.

I hope you are still thinking positively about having dinner with me. DB.

Tears began to cloud her eyes as she opened up the second envelope that had come three hours after the first.

I should also let you know, I’m not a patient man either, so hurry up.DB.

She burst out laughing. Whether it was just happiness, glee or amusement, she didn’t know and she didn’t care. She got roses!

“What did you do?” Michelle asked.

“I don’t know.” Sinclaire was completely flustered. “Just my job, I guess.” She felt so unsure of herself and there were just too many emotions to even try to think straight.

“From the little that I know of him, he’s … aloof.” Michelle shifted her weight slightly as if she were uncomfortable to speak on him. “I hear Niche’s friends speak on him because he’s real
good at finance retrieval.”

“How old is he?” Sinclaire inquired curiously. ‘What do you care?! You are not good enough for him!’ Mel’s voice bellowed in her head. She forced herself to remain focus. Her
mother’s voice, even imaginary, was always upsetting.

“I think almost forty, but I saw him in this local business magazine and he does not look at all near that age.” She dug around her office and found a very prominent business magazine with Dwight on the cover looking damn good in a tailored made business suit. Opening up the magazine, Michelle begin to read aloud about him. “Born and raised in Chicago, Dwight earned his right to be good at what he does by retrieving over four hundred billion dollars worth of debt for companies all over the world. His finance retrieval skills and his accounting degree has helped companies in better business. Divorced with children, Dwight says his move to Detroit will not only be a major business change, but he hopes to make personal changes as well.” She looked up and winked mischievously as she closed he magazine. “Sounds like a man ready to settle down.”

Sinclaire’s stomach churned and she felt the familiar pulsing that she could never control. “I-I need to go to the bathroom.”

“Are you alright?” Michelle asked worriedly.

“Yes,” she lied, but she didn’t want to feel elated anymore. Not if it made her …

Without speaking anymore, Sinclaire left out the office and found the employees bathroom right away. She locked herself in the stall and took out a pencil case that had a smaller version of her silver case at home. This was the emergency kit. The one that most times she kept like a Linus Blanket, but used every blue moon. This one had not been used in a long while, but nothing like Dwight Bowman had stepped into her life.

Out loud she asked herself, "I thought you said after the last time you wouldn't do it anymore? You can fight this."

But as usual those words fell on deaf ears as she concentrated on cleaning the inside of her thigh.
The cut she had made just last night was still there and it stung when she wiped the alcohol over it, but the burn was necessary. She needed the pain.

‘Forget him,’ Mel’s voice whispered in her head. ‘You don’t deserve anyone. You are fat and ugly.’

Tears welled in her eyes and she could barely see as she took the blade out. The pencil bag fell off her leg hitting her backpack and the cards Dwight had given her fell out on the floor.

She pulled the blade back just before she was about to cut herself, to wipe the tears out of her eyes so she could see. Her eyes focused on the card.

I hope you are still thinking positively about having dinner with me. DB.

‘Can have dinner with him?!’ she told herself.

“Why not?” she asked aloud.

Picking up the card, she read his note again.

“No I’m not still thinking about having dinner with you, Mr. Bowmen.” She spoke as if he were standing there. “I can’t because you’ll look at my fat face up close and won’t like me.”

‘Is that what you’re going to tell him?’

“No,” she answered herself. “I’ll tell him I have school and I don’t have time.”

The feelings that had overwhelmed her in Michelle’s office had dissipated, so she promptly but the blade away and applied the band-aid to the day old wound she had inflicted on herself.

Her night was disturbing because she couldn’t concentrate on her studies. After closing, while she waited for Michelle to finish the office paper work for the past two nights, Sinclaire took out the business card of Dwight Bowmen and tore it to pieces.

The finality of her decision made strange pains in her chest and her gut felt as if she was
going to throw up, but she had to make a choice. School or a relationship and if anyone was going to take her seriously – especially her mother, she had to focus on school.

Alone or not, when she gained her law degree she’d be respected and treated as if she mattered in this world… and she wouldn’t need Mel to care after all this was over.

The phone rung just as Michelle was closing up the safe. They looked at each other

strangely because no one called the store after it closed.

“Should we answer it?” Sinclaire asked.

Michelle walked over to the phone and picked up the receiver. “Hello? Uniquity Boutique, how may I help you?” She was frowning deeply, but then her frown dissipated. “Well, yes I know you… We were just about to leave… Oh no, it’s not a requirement, but –“ She was cut off and at first she looked upset. The next moment she laughed and said, “Well, I don’t know because I don’t ask my employees about their personal business… you’ll have to ask her yourself.” She handed the receiver to Sinclaire. “It’s for you.”

She mouthed the words, “Me?”

Michelle nodded.

“Who is it?” Sinclaire mouthed without voice.

Her manager whispered, “I was told not to tell you, but I can’t order you to take the phone.”

Curious, she took the phone and put it to her ear to see if she could hear anything. Nothing! “Hello?”

“You didn’t actually think I’d take no for an answer,” Dwight asked on the other end of the phone.

Did someone just inject a gallon of butterflies in her stomach? “I don’t think you like that word, but my answer is still-“

“Before you say another word, Sinclaire, I should let you know that since it seems you haven’t been out in the dating world in a while, that it’s bad etiquette to refuse someone over the phone.”

How did he know whether she’s been out in the dating world or not? Although in truth, she hadn’t been out in the dating world at all, but she didn’t want to seem ignorant. “So I’m supposed to find you and tell you what I need to tell you? Why can’t I say it over the phone?”

“The same reason you don’t walk to the left. You just don’t do it. So why don’t you come refuse me tonight and you never have to set eyes or ears upon me again,” he promised.

“So if I don’t come, you’ll continue to call me every night.”

“And don’t forget the flowers,” he reminded her.

Disquieted, over his persistence, she said sarcastically, “Oh no, we wouldn’t forget that.”

“I’d double the order every day until you accepted.”

“I’m almost inclined to keep refusing since I’ve never gotten them.”

“I’m very persistent.”

Sinclaire sighed knowing it was wrong to keep Michelle in the store when it was so late and she knew he wouldn’t take no for an answer over the phone. “Fine, where?”

“The Hyatt. Come to the bar. That’s not far.”

That was right near the mall. “Are you stalking me?” she asked suspiciously.

“Never that,” he said as if it were the craziest thing in the world. “I had a client meeting over here and it lasted longer than I thought, so I thought I’d call to remind you that I’m waiting for your answer, but I realized I didn’t have a number to contact you, accept by phone at the store.”

She believed him. “I’ll come and you’ve got to promise not to call me at my job anymore.”

“You’ll come now?” he verified.

“Yes!” Sinclaire slammed down the phone and huffed in anger. “He’s so persistent!”

“It’s Dwight Bowman. I heard he’d ride the Pope to death if it concerned business. I heard that no one has ever reneged on any loan when Dwight was involved in it,” Michelle said.

They started to walk out the mall.

“Why?” Sinclaire said.

“Let’s just say that Dwight Bowman is just a thug in a suit. Grown, albeit but according to my husband he use to run the streets for King Heart out of Chicago collecting on debts before he came to join with Delano Bellini, come to Detroit and decide to become legit. King was upset Dwight left because the man could squeeze water out of a rock if he was paid enough.”

“Are you saying he runs a loan sharking business?”

“No. He runs an investment company. This company lends the money out and gets it back while the another partner invest the money in real estate and bonds.”

“But he’s the muscle man.”

“You could say, but my husband’s never met him, so don’t take his word for it. It’s all just
gossip fodder. The man could be a big ole’ pussy cat.’

“I’m not going to meet him! Not after what you just told me,” Sinclaire said.

By this time they had walked to the cars.

“You promised, Sinclaire, and you aren’t about to break a promise to that man so he can be sitting outside my store every night stalking you. He’s rich… no, he’s wealthy… overly wealthy and he’s very interested in you, so take a bite out of that wealth and get you some fun along with a great education.” Michelle stopped walking and gently held Sinclaire’s arm to get her to face her. “He’s a man. He puts his pants on one leg at a time. But most of all, he’s just like the first man. Entranced by what you have between your thighs. Relish that thought, Sin, because that’s going to get you to dig down within yourself and find your power within so you don’t take shit from him or anyone else. You’re a woman and don’t you ever let him forget it.”

Sinclaire forced herself to take a deep breath. It actually felt much better once she let Michelle’s words soak in.

Getting to her car that had the dozen roses packed on the backseat, which she had brought out earlier on her shift, Sinclaire knew that in order to focus on what she needed to do in life, she had to get rid of him.

‘Do you know how crazy that sounds?’ For the first time in her life a man – a very handsome, sexy and wealthy man was paying attention to her.

The timing was all wrong. She couldn’t focus on law school and him at the same time.

Driving over to the Hyatt, she found the bar immediately. He spotted her before she spotted him and walked up to her. Dressed in a navy blue pinstripe suit, he still looked as gorgeous as he had the first time. Walking next to him was an Italian dark skinned man, who looked like a light skinned black man, but she could see the sharp features and the pitch-black wavy hair. Plus, she was very aware of whom he was. Delano Bellini was part of a very prominent Hispanic and Italian mixed family, who owned over seventy billion dollars worth of real estate in the world, a famous winery in Italy, and The St. Royal Hotel and Cruise Line, which was geared toward minorities.

Dwight walked up to her and kissed her on the cheek, while hugging her, catching her completely off guard. “Sinclaire, this is one of my partners, Delano Bellini.”

She was still a little discombobulated from the affection Dwight had just shown, but she stretched out her hand and shook Delano’s strong grip. He was just as tall as Dwight, but brawny with a sort of perfect linebacker body. There was a sort of cruel look to his olive green eyes that were weirdly similar to Dwight’s and they had similar good looks except for the sharp features. But she didn’t point this out to them.

“Pleasure, Sinclaire,” Delano said briefly and then turned his attention to Dwight. “I’ll take the car back to the hotel, because I have a stop to make. Do you mind taking the limousine?”

“No,” Dwight said.

When Delano was gone, she turned to him to make her announcement. “Now, as I wanted to say over the phone-“ She stopped what she was saying because he was giving her a hard
serious look that made her stop what she was saying. “What?”

“We really must work on your public skills, Sinclaire.”

Guiltily she took comfort in his proximity and liked how people’s heads turned at seeing her with him. He gently took her hand and led her outside to a limousine.

She halted her step. “Where are we going?”

“Where you can properly break up with me,” he said obviously as if she should know.

The driver opened the door to the limousine and Sinclaire got inside more curious to see the inside of a limousine than breaking this thing off with Dwight. It was her first time inside one and she was able to see the spacious luxurious cabin before Dwight got inside and the door was closed turning the inner light off.

“Now?” she asked, looking at him. Albeit the dimness, she could still see that he was looking at her with a sort of greedy happy expression.

“Not yet. Are you thirsty?”

The car began to move.

Nervously, she asked, “Where are we going?”

“I told you. Are you thirsty?” he asked again.

“No! Mr. Bowman-“

He cut her off, “Dwight,” he insisted.

“Dwight, I really think we should … This car needs to stop!”

His tone of voice was oddly calm despite her almost hysterical tone. “It will,” he promised. “But some place proper. Are you hungry? I am starving. I didn’t eat with the client. I never do. I like to do business first.”

“I find that hard to believe since we aren’t handling our business first and no I’m not hungry.” That was a first, but she was too upset to do anything and she had left her backpack in the car.
Forwardly, he reached up and cupped her cheek as if he couldn’t help himself. The feeling of his warm palm against her skin excited her all over and it took all her willpower not to lean into his
hand.

“Did you like the roses?” he asked casually.

Moving his hand away and coming back to reality, Sinclaire looked out the back window to see her car getting further and further away and worrying about how she was going to get back home.

“Sinclaire,” he said. “Did you like the roses?”

“Yes, they were beautiful. Thank you, but you can’t send me them anymore.”

“Yes, I know sending them at your job was inappropriate, but if you would give me your home address, I could send them there.”

“No!” she said firmly. “I can’t do that because-“

He cut her off again. “I haven’t been with a woman in twelve years.”

This caught her off guard. “Why?” she couldn’t help asking.

“My wife left me, because I couldn’t rub two quarters together. Left me with two children to raise, and I told myself I’d focus on raising them and making sure I had enough quarters to make her come back to me.”

“Did she?”

“I was young and stupidly in love. I raised my kids without asking her for a dime and now that I have the wealth, I know I’m a better man than to even let her come in my life.”

“That still doesn’t explain your reasons to not be with a woman,” she pointed out.

“Money recovery is a very lonely life. The women you meet are usually the ones people send to your hotel room when they are trying to coherence you into forgetting they owe a debt. I’ve matured from that and don’t make sharing myself with just anyone. You don’t make many friends when you force old ladies out on the street or close down family businesses in order to recovery a debt, but I don’t mind being the bad guy. I had to be in order to survive. Yet, women seem to find me unattractive because of the job that I do.”

“So you approach strange women and tell them how beautiful they are?” she asked sardonically.

He smiled his gorgeous smile in amusement not taking her wicked tone seriously. “No, Sinclaire, you are fate. A very beautiful wonderful fate and one that I would desire to know better if you give me a chance.”

“This is a bad time in my life. I’m six months from taking the bar.”

“I am a busy man as well and I don’t intend on taking up any extra amounts of your time.”

Why did that sound so reasonable? ‘Because you want it to.’

Her stomach twittered furiously. “You aren’t going to make me change my mind.”

“I wouldn’t dare change a woman’s mind when she’s so dead set against refusing me, but I can make you understand that I don’t just approach anyone and the fact that I approached you should be considered.”

Before she could respond to that arrogant statement, the driver said, “We’re here, Mr. Bowman.”

She had been so consumed by his proximity and conversation; she had paid little attention to where they had been going. They were in front of another hotel – The St. Royal near Downtown Detroit - A five star hotel that had suites ranging from $150 to $1000 dollar a night.

“Why are we here?” she questioned.

He didn’t answer her and she reluctantly followed him out the limousine, which promptly pulled away once they had stepped out. Gently, he took her hand again and smiled down at her as if he were honored to have her in his presence.

‘Did he make all the women he was around feel like a queen?’ She wondered as she freely allowed him to guide her in the lobby.

“Dwight Bowmen with a woman?” a woman’s sharp voice sneered as they headed to the restaurant.

Dwight reluctantly looked away from Sinclaire to focus on the five foot two Italian woman looking like she had a large chip on her shoulder. “Ms Taylor Bellini, what are you doing in Detroit?”

“Same thing you are. When my cousin decides to move you know everyone has to move as well. Mamma’s not happy, but she sees the benefits. We go where the money is.” The woman had not stopped looking at Sinclaire. She was the spitting image of Delano Bellini, but all woman. Slim, cover model beautiful Italian-Hispanic heritage that was brought out a sultry sensual woman that carried dominance clearly on her sleeve.

“This is Sinclaire-“

Taylor sneered cut him off. “Did you pick up this one-“

“Watch it, Taylor Bellini,” Dwight said in a very deadly low tone narrowing his beautiful eyes that had become a shade of dark green brown.

Taylor, amused bit her lip and looked at Sinclaire. “Watch yourself, girl. Don’t let that charm fool you.” She walked away.

“Should I be worried?” Sinclaire asked.

Dwight moved his arms around her waist and drew her closer to him. “Of Taylor, yes. Of your safety, no. That’s not why we’re here.” His arm smoothly moved around her waist to draw her close. “Please don’t let her ruin this evening, Sinclaire.”

“This is not an evening, Dwight.” She pushed away slightly from him to compose her mental state, but was still very close because his arms were still around her waist. “I should be honored and enamored by your advances, but at this time I cannot accept them.” If he only knew what was going on between her legs, he would have definitely known she was the biggest liar in the world. “I have to concentrate on my school and I can’t if you’re distracting me.”

“How am I a distraction?” he asked as if the notion was ridiculous. “I haven’t even kissed you.”
