The Mystery of Love

Donna Hill (guest blogger)

Since my early days of reading I was a devout mystery reader. I was groomed on Agatha Christie, Eric Lustbader, and the like. Even my years of reading Greek mythology was filled with mystery. So it was inevitable that once the writing bug hit me that I would write my own mystery. It didn’t quite happen that way. I became an accidental romance writer.

I got my first short story published in Black Romance magazine back in 1997. And although it was a relationship story (as it had to be) there was a level of mystery in it as well. The character falls asleep on a bus ride home and her story begins when she gets dropped off on a dark street.

And when I began to get published in novel form my romances always held some level of mystery or suspense. My second novel Indiscretions was a murder mystery, Temptation featured a character that was hiding his true identity, Wicked Ways and Getting Hers is murder and mayhem gone wild, and Guilty Pleasures is all about the con. Those are just a few examples.

Because my reading tastes are entrenched in the mystery and suspense genre I love to throw a curve ball into my romances and it gives (to me) another level to the romance and a challenge for the couples. And in the reverse, my mainstream fiction always has the challenge of a relationship beneath it and that comes from my years of romance writing and the demands of writing a romance which insists that relationships are developed.

I think it’s a great marriage and I hope that my readers do as well!

Hiccup in the plans. Please don't be made at me.

I'm working like a Hebrew slave and you know I hate rush endings.

Albeit I've been accused of it before, but this one is very important, so with that, this is sad news that I'm going to try for Sunday. I was going to say Saturday, but I don't want to push it.

I'm going to try not to miss another deadline and I'm so sorry about this.

Emperor's Addiction Chapter 25.3 - about time!

Writing Actions Scenes

Suspense involves a lot of elements. Killing scenes and love scenes I've mastered perfectly. (A little bit too good on the love scenes, huh, LOL.)

But the action scenes have been a challenge for me for a while.

The best action scene I've written is in Stealing Innocence when Onyx and Lethal entered the house and Onyx took that guy out with extreme prejudice. Dropped him like a bad habit and didn't blink. Then there was the warehouse scene where the bad men were shooting up a storm with the kids and Kimberly.

I liked that one.

Although that the scene where William fought with the killer in Stone's Revenge was pretty good too.

I mean when its involved in killing I've been surpriseningly and scarily pretty good too.

The Hearts have always been an action family and they've been a good outlet to write. But these darn action scenes are so damn detailed in this book because I'm dealing with more than one Heart at a time and they've all got drama of their own that weaves around main story line.

This makes it more complicated and harder to write.

Or more like exhausting. Can you just imagine having all these big strong overwhelming men in one room all taking and doing things?

That's how I feel and that's why i've been slow at posting things because I have to take them one layer at a time so I don't feel so damn overwhelmed (especially when dealing with King and Lethal.)

thank you for your patience with me and no, you don't have to check out Expedia deals to Detroit. I'm fine.

I'm currently trying to get this story out theway and concentrate on my conference.

Plus, i'm re-editing His Substitute Wife... My Sister, which I think will be my next paperback in 2009. I'll release it exclusively on Amazon on paperback and see how the sells go. It's a big book and i'm going to trim it down some although I think the story is just wonderful. I might even break the story up and go from there. That'd be fly... oh yeah, now that I'm thinking about it and writing about it, I think I'd be just perfect.

Can you tell me where I could possibly break it up at though? and then I'll need a subtitle for each part. Help a sister out.

If you haven't read His Substitute Wife... My Sister, you can do so now by going to http://lulu.com/sylviahubbard and picking up your copy.

Enjoy...

Emperor's Addiction Chapter 25.2 & Author's Note

Answers to readers:

Sylvia is here.

Spent weekend in Chicago hosted by Glen with 220 Communications and he was awesome.

I did a book signing at Azizi Books in Matteson and then Glen took me to an awesome concert.

I'll be back in Chicago on the 19th of September so I expect to see a better turnout!

I'm exhausted, but I had time to think about the story and even work a little of it out on my phone because i left my laptop in Detroit on purpose.

I see the ending, but I have to get a lot of things explained. Like how to make sure you aren't really confused.

enjoy...

I try to deal with the King character as little as possible. because i don't like him on the inside. i did rewrite this part to describe him a little to you which meant i had to look him in the face. don't get mad at me because of that, i got a little king in me and did something really awful.

your fault.
