Synthia didn’t feel it was appropriate to let this woman know exactly how she had met Colin.
“I’m a client of his.”

The woman frowned. “You don’t look like a car connoisseur.”

“Why is my association being questioned, Ms Barlett?” Synthia’s cool cruel business side came out immediately. “We both know that you made that promise to him about the loan on a prayer.
The bank only gave you that ridiculous demand because they knew he’d never come up with it.
They don’t want him to succeed and they most likely had no intentions of granting a loan that size to him even if he came up with the five grand.”

Ms. Barlett looked confused and then terrified. “How do you know that?”

“I know banks. I’ve worked with banks and if I had a bank in this economic down turn making a loan to him would be the stupidest thing to do.” She checked her hair one more time before pulling out a hundred dollar bill. “Thank you.”

As she put back on her coat, the old woman approached her. “Why are you interested a him?”

“I’m not up to discussing that.”

“If we both know where he comes from, I have every right to question your interest in him. I don’t believe that client mess either.”

“To be honest I’m still figuring that out.”

“So you really don’t care about his dream?” The woman looked heartbroken.

“No, but I need a stake in his life and if this is the only way, then I’ll do it.”

The woman handed Synthia back the hundred. “Colin doesn’t want anything you have to offer and neither do I. Whatever he’s done wrong by you, he’ll make it through whatever hell you plan on putting him through.”

Synthina shrugged nonchalantly, taking the money back. “What makes you so sure of that, Ms. Bartlett. You know something I don’t know? Last time I remember, he who holds the gold, rules.”

“But he who believes and does His commandment will be blessed with favor. By my faith in God and my love for that boy, I give him all that is supposed to be meant for me. I don’t know what he’s done, but he’s paid for his sins. I know in my heart he has. He deserves to stop paying for his sins, even if he doesn’t feel like he doesn’t. He deserves something bettter.”

The woman turned away and called another customer rudely dismissing her.

Synthia drove Grace’s car back to its owner’s home. Grace’s father answered the door and was happy to take Grace’s car keys, because his daughter was in the basement “working.” Synthia had called a cab to meet her over there so Grace wouldnm’t have to interrupt her work and take her home.

He stepped out on the porch instead of inviting Grace inside. “You look beautiful as always Synthia. How’s your mother?”

“She and Noel wish her condition was better, but it’s not.”

“Noel said you were taking advantage of everyone’s poor position and not put your mother in a home closer to home and would be better for your mother’s health. I told her that wasn’t true.”

“And it’s not,” Synthia disputed, but she wasn’t about to tell him what the real problem was. No matter what, she was going to keep her mother’s secrets.

The cab pulled up and Synthia waved to it for the driver to wait a moment.

“I’d have taken you home,” her father said.

“It’s fine,” Synthia said.

“Grace told me you came by to talk earlier about some things that were troubling you,” he said.

She knew Grace wouldn’t have gone into detail about the matter. “Your daughter has a wonderful insight into life.”

“Yeah, she does. I just wish she’d listen to herself some times.” He sounded bothered. “Did she say anything about what’s bothering her?”

“No,” Synthia said honestly, although if Grace had would she have really told Synthia.

“I’ve been watching her lately. She’s been spending more and more time on the computer in a…”
He lowered his voice as if he were hiding their conversation from a crowded room. “A chat room.”

So Grace was searching on the Internet for a man. It was the twenty-first century, lots of women and men did that. “I’m sure there’s nothing to be upset about. People find dates all the time on the Internet.”

“I don’t think that’s what she’s doing,” her father said very worriedly. “I think you should talk to her, because I don’t know what I should say.”

“Grace and I really aren’t that close enough to have that kind of talk into her personal life, sir. I think you’re closer to her than I.”

“Please,” he begged holding her hands close to his chest. “I really don’t know how to talk to my own daughter, but I know some things wrong.”

There was a desperate demeanor about him that she knew at this time she couldn’t refuse him.
“I’ll see what I can do. Tell Grace to make room in her schedule Sunday morning for brunch. I’ll come pick her up about nine.”

“You could send the cab away and I’ll still take you home,” he insisted.

In truth, she really didn’t want to speak to anyone and needed the ride home alone to think about everything.

“No thank you. I’ll be fine. Thank you.” After telling the driver where to go, she took a deep breath. Once she arrived there, she drove her car to her office to pull up some of Taylor’s email immediately. The woman could get to work very fast and was almost done with the process.

Synthia pulled up her banking information and looked at the transaction for the longest time.
‘If you do this Jason will hate you for involving this man in your life. This could be a long time commitment and Jason will never forgive you for helping the person that could have possibly killed Trisha.”

Standing up to give herself room to pace and think everything out, she had to wonder would
Trisha forgive if someone had killed Synthia?

‘People do a lot of shit in life Syn and I always say don’t judge them because they’ll get theirs. As long as they’re honest with themselves then I don’t continue to hate them. If they aren’t honest with themselves then I don’t have to give them the respect as a human being they deserve.’

She remembered Trisha saying this once when questioned why Katrina was treated so mean. At the time, Synthia hadn’t thought about much about Trisha’s statement because she couldn’t understand what Trisha and Katrina hated about each other. They kept to themselves and didn’t make Synthia choose. Both wanted to be her friend and she liked each one, although

Trisha was always her favorite because it didn’t feel fake sometimes as it had been with Katrina.

Was Colin honest with himself? Or was he being a faker and using a little old black woman to get
what he wanted?

Going back over to the computer, she moved the mouse over to the icon that read in big black letters: ACCEPT TRANSACTION?

Ms Bartlett had a point about paying for your sins and getting a second chance. Synthia still has questions to ask, answers to get before moving on. She might have to go to Colin for that.

Sylvia you always try to throw little clues so we can catch on to the mystery. When you were talking about Grace you said “working.” There is a clue somewhere in there and I think I know what it is but I am not going to say...lol. You are good girl. Anyway, I am still loving Syn. I think I love her character more everyday. She is the diva to be reckon with...lol

Synthia got some issues but I hope she is trying to help Colin. I believe in Colin. I hope he swirl away from Tisha instead of helping to kill her. I don't understand why Colin did not tell the police someelse was in the car.
Grace in not living in the real world. Virtual world sucks and fantasy life is going to end up with been alone and loney. Sylvia you mention Grace better half is one of characters in the story. Is it Dalton?
Sylvia how is your father. I hope he is well. Is he out of the hospital?

Sylvia, after reading through the latest comments from your readers, I realized once again why I love online stories so much. Not only do they give you and your readers a chance to personally connect, they also let you see just how your stories are being received...in real time.

Other pros to online stories (from author's POV):

1. You get feedback about who hates what character and why. That's gotta be helpful when deciding to do spin-off books.

2. You get a glimpse into which storylines are going to be the most popular. Are more people pheening for interracial stories? May/December romances? Knowing the answers to those questions had help with decision-making about new books. (Remember how one of your (tall?) readers pleasantly complained about your heroines always being so short? lol. I loved that honestly. It definitely made me add a few inches and even some extra pounds to my own heroines to better represent real people.)

3. Finally, you get to see how your readers interact with one another. This gives you clues as to which of your other books they might like and just haven't read yet.

I was thinking about emailing you this, but decided to post it here in case other authors who follow your blog might need that extra push to start online stories of their own.

Keep doing you, Sylvia.
